It's May 17th, the Plains have been dead excluding May 10/11th and it looks like a derecho setup may already appear. The most recent 12/00Z runs of the GFS have been painting very compact NW flow across the Midwest with decently high instability and low-level moisture across IL/IN/OH. In short, it looks like we've skipped May here and gone straight into the derecho season that usually doesn't start until mid-June. I won't complain though, I'm eager to redeem the past two derecho day failures around here and hopefully next Wednesday provides.
